Band begins at the fifth grade level. Each student has the opportunity to pick an instrument they would like to learn. Fifth and sixth graders meet separately and see the instructor twice a week; once in a small group and once as a fifth grade, or sixth grade band. Primarily, instruction is based on working through a method book with supplemental group music geared towards the three different concerts throughout the year. Students also have an opportunity to attend honor bands. Being involved in 5-6 band gives students the perfect start on musicianship and prepares the student for lifelong enjoyment. It is a fun environment where excitement and exploration is the main focus!
High School Band
The 7-12 band offers students a fantastic opportunity to explore a variety of musical experiences. The band starts each year with opportunities for parade marching and jumps right into pep band. Pep Band is the ultimate peer support as the band plays at numerous sporting events throughout the year. A variety of concerts during the year give the ensemble something to work for. Each concert will have a variety of different selections, broadening the musical knowledge of each student. Every three years, the music department takes a trip to a fun destination to celebrate our hard work and to perform. Students will also have opportunities to play in small groups or jazz combos and perform at district music, an excellent way to work on individual musicianship. Being involved in the band is highly encouraged and is doable, even if you are in several other activities. Each student deserves musical experiences.
